Youth Advisory Council (YAC) members help propose, organize, market, and execute teen & youth programs with the Hall County Library System! You will earn volunteer credit for the time spent at all meetings and other activities!

We're looking for enthusiastic students ages 14-18 who are interested in making an impact on their community while developing their leadership skills and, most importantly, having fun! At our once a month, one-hour YAC meetings you'll work on projects to serve the library. You may be assembling crafts, preparing for summer reading, creating a display, or helping plan cool library programs! You'll have the opportunity to help with library events on evenings, weekends, or holidays when it fits your schedule, including storytimes, children's events, and even outreach!

If you would like to help the library and the Hall County community during the school year, PRINT the membership application below, fill it out, and bring it to the next YAC meeting at the Blackshear Place Library, Spout Springs Library, or the Gainesville Library on the Square. For summer volunteering positions, fill out the online application available here from March 15 - April 15 and we will contact you for an interview.

YAC FACTS

Do I have to join YAC to volunteer at the library?  Yes. To volunteer during the school year, if you are ages 14-18, please print and complete the YAC application below and bring it to the next monthly meeting at your local library. To join the summer YAC volunteer program, complete the online summer application available from March 15 to April 15 each spring. We will contact you for an interview!

I missed the first fall meeting, can I still join YAC? Yes. The HCLS YAC runs throughout the school year. Feel free to join us at any of our meetings in August through April. If you would like to be a summer volunteer, complete the online application available from March 15 to April 15 each spring and we will contact you for an interview.

How does a YAC member get volunteer credit? We will keep track of the hours members volunteer with us and provide an official summary when requested. Volunteers receive credit for the time spent at the monthly meetings and any additional time they assist at the library in programs, shelving or helping with outreach. If you need documentation, please let us know in advance so we can compile that information.

Is there any cost associated with YAC? NOPE!

Are parents allowed at YAC meetings? No. YAC is a time for teens to be teens with other teens! They will be well-monitored by HCLS Youth Services Staff. Parents ARE invited to the first meeting of each semester in August and January.

Please contact the YAC coordinator at your branch or lechols@hallcountylibrary.org with any questions or concerns.
